Bullies on Instagram are to start receiving warning messages asking them to rethink abusive comments before posting them, the social media giant has announced.
The Facebook-owned company has unveiled the feature, which as part of a drive to combat cyberbulling, to give trolls pause to “reflect” before posting hurtful comments.
Instagram also announced it is due to start testing another feature called ‘restrict’ which will allow victims of bullying to block their tormentors without alerting them.
Adam Mosseri, the Head of Instagram, said the latest features were the start of a series aimed at cleaning up abuse on the network.
He said: “This intervention gives people a chance to reflect and undo their comment and prevents the recipient from receiving the harmful comment notification.
